I have found it !

I remember playing this co-op with a friend many years ago. Quite enjoyed it but lost the name….

Andy Moore Minecraft mine cart station example

My friend Jamie is playing a lot of Minecraft these days and I am constantly amazed by his creations. Its fun taking a back seat seeing it maybe once a week and watching his world grow.

Because of the size of the world transport between all the different locations is becoming  a bit of an issue (sometimes taking around 30 mins to walk between areas). There is a mine cart underground system in place that is simple but Jamie craved more.

I came across Andy Moores design (creator of Steambirds) and was amazed as to how automated  the station can be.

Rebuild and Rebuild 2

One of the criticisms of Rebuild was the simple graphics. I personally think the characters provide a blank canvas for their emergent narrative, allowing me to give them a personality.

When playing Rebuild I am reminded of playing other turn based games like X-com. As in X-com I am emphatic for the team and their emergent story. Each turn there is an update from the leader as to what happened the previous turn. This covers the simple facts that you need to know with a small but interesting story about what happened. The survivors seem to find many stray dogs on the journey which cheers the towns folk up with a nice +5 happiness to your stats. I was upset when my fearless leader ‘Digby Harithwate III’ did not return from a routine scouting mission. The town drowned their sorrows with a party in the church lead buy the new town leader and soldiered on.

Rebuild 2 is on its way according to the creator Sarah Northway. She has menitoned the possible problems with the original and the plans for the sequel on her blog (Northway Games), the sequel will much like the original with some new ideas and more NPCs etc…
